The organization serves homeless and at-risk men, women, and families struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, often intertwined with homelessness, trauma, and other challenges, offering a proven continuum of care certified by the DC Department of Behavioral Health and designed to promote lasting recovery and independence.

The programs are organized in phases: Phase 1: Intensive Treatment Program offers short-term residential treatment for single adults aged 21- 65 (men and women separately), focusing on stabilization, holistic healing services (including 12-step meetings, addiction counseling, group therapy, individual sessions, relapse prevention, and support for physical/mental/spiritual needs), and building foundational recovery skills in a safe, structured setting. Phase 2 extends recovery with 3- 6 months of continued application of tools learned in Phase 1, emphasizing positive social skills and relapse prevention. Phase 3: Long-Term Recovery Program supports those with 6+ months of sobriety, stable income, and a sponsor by providing affordable sober living units (SRO-style) in a community of peers for 6 months to 2 years, enabling gradual reintegration with ongoing guidance. A specialized women with children program accommodates mothers and pregnant women, offering onsite childcare, family support, and tailored recovery in a nurturing environment.

Samaritan Inns integrates faith-based principles (non-denominational, holistic approach) with evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy elements, contingency management, brief intervention, anger management, and community reinforcement to address root causes of addiction. The organization prioritizes accessibility, serving diverse populations with no long barriers to entry in many cases. It accepts various funding sources, including Medicaid (DC Healthy Families/DC Medicaid), private insurance, and donations/grants to keep services affordable and available.
