Compass Point, based in the Northern Black Hills region of South Dakota, is a non‑profit behavioral health provider serving communities since 1973. Originally known as Northern Hills Alcohol and Drug Services, the agency is accredited by both the South Dakota Department of Social Services and the Department of Health; its clinical staff includes certified counselors—many of whom bring lived‑experience in recovery—alongside a Medical Director, registered nurse, and mental health counselors.

The organization provides a full spectrum of addiction and mental‑health services:

• Assessment & Screening: Comprehensive screening, treatment‑needs assessments, walk‑in options, and crisis intervention for individuals over 18.
• Therapeutic Programs: Evidence‑based modalities including individual and group therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, 12‑Step facilitation, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), CBISA, and the Matrix Model.
• Levels of Care: Offers outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and a 28‑day medically‑monitored inpatient program with family involvement, the only one in western South Dakota.
• Specialized Services: Trauma‑informed care, co‑occurring mental‑health treatment, life‑skills education, family and marital counseling, and nicotine‑cessation support.
• Aftercare & Prevention: Continued‑care group therapy, relapse‑prevention planning, drug‑testing, and community prevention initiatives; plus DUI and adolescent diversion classes.

Compass Point operates on a sliding‑fee scale, is open to all South Dakota residents regardless of ability to pay, and accepts state funding when eligible. Their mission is to offer individualized, dignity‑centered care aimed at helping people, families, and communities reclaim lives from addiction and mental illness—with hope and sustained recovery as core values.
